Prados authors NASA feature on Spain's largest wildfire

In October 2023, Ana Prados, a principal investigator with NASA’s Wildland Fires program, traveled to Asturias in northern Spain, where she visited the site of the single largest fire to date in the region. The fire began in the town of Foyedo and burned 10,096 hectares of land. Dr. Prados met with a team of regional and national government forestry technicians, researchers, emergency service and forest service personnel, and community members. Among other topics, they discussed challenges and opportunities in use of remote sensing for fire management, such as maps of wildfire recurrence and severity indices.

She also presented the findings at the 7th International Fire Behavior and Fuels Conference in Tralee, Ireland in April 2024.
